Saturday was another Sold out show at Chinatown stomping ground Eurotrash! And it was so popular, there was even a line to get back in even if you were a punter already. Not to mention a massive line of hopefuls braving the cold in the hopes to see Sydney duo Bagraiders.
Downstairs people were grooving to some tasty selections by Josh Jakq with The Future Love DJs waiting to drop some love. The crowd was a mix of the tuypical peeps who frequent the club, with the occasional fashionable flannel and indie hipster. But definitely more ‘clubbers’ than usual had been pulled in to see the Bagraiders. Could it be due to the Bagraiders recently being featured on Ministry of Sound and plenty of radio airplay? Either way, we had all started heading somewhere on our musical adventure, and the Bagraiders are definitely a good place to start!
We headed straight up stairs to try and catch some of rising Melbourne stars Lamode. We were too late, but friends told us they ‘smashed it’ which was good to hear. Definitely expecting some big things from them. The room was absolutely packed full of punters as 1928 did a rad job of jackin’ the dance floor with bombs like the new VansheTech remix of LadyHawkes Back of the Van. But the most damage was done by the Crookers remix of Salt n’ Peppa Push It, the Ursula 1000 Edit. How can you resist that drop? Even fans that don’t typically ‘fidget’ still all without ‘lose their shit’ to that drop!
Finally the ‘baggies’ rolled in like Ninjas, as the crowd was taken by surprise with the DJ swap. The vibe definitely dropped a bit after 1928’s set of jackin’ bombs, but it was good to see the Bagraiders were confident to ‘do it their way’ and start off sparkly. They started out with a tasty selection of sparkly disco flavors mixed in with some indie-indie-dance (sic) bombs such as the Twelves remix of Black Kids – I’m not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance with you. Longest track name ever! By this stage people were dancing on tables, speaker stacks were falling over due to crazed fans and even Damn Arms were bopping their heads… Only slightly, ever so slightly…
By the time the flagship track FunPunch dropped, the club was worked up in a frenzy and the Baggies had taken over Melbourne! And also, a little baggy told me that one of the new tracks from the Bagraiders was played on the night. Keep a look out for some more disco goodness!
