While Oscar Mulero may have failed to show after an unfortunate accident, with the ironically named Last Techno Party suffering yet another twist of poor luck, last Saturday proved that for ultimate audio satisfaction all Melburnians need do is look local.

Entering a packed out Ffour around 12 it was clear that the night was continuing in the spirt of Mulero and a classic banging techno sound, with a duel set from Matt Radovich and Dave Pham wetting appetites all round. From what I could gather the BPM never dropped below 140 in the main room most of the night, and judging by the crowd’s enthusiastic and often vocal reactions, the brain throbbing was far from unappreciated. The followup set from Matic saw the room packed to the brim, continuing an intensely crisp techno sound that’s not heard too often (or enough) locally anymore.

The highlight of the night was definitely a live set from local legend Linas, rising like a digital phoenix from the ashes with some fresh new material, his 30-minute performance left all wanting more. Frantic paced beats bordered on delightfully incomprehensible as the BPM pushed past 150, if the bodies in the room weren’t keeping up it’s only cause their ears were. Imminence and Slack took the main room home while I dipped out to the balcony to enjoy the rest of the night on a mellower level. Ranjit Nijjer and Craig McWhinney were turning out some real deep beats in the side room all night, consistently melodic while keeping punters interested.

All in all this was a banging night considering the absence of Mulero, and if anything it was refreshing to be reminded of the quality of techno delight our local scene can deliver. It made me wonder whether Stable and Pretty Simple should even consider making this a regular gig…....though a name change might be a good idea. Keep it coming Melburn!

And special thanks to Tek1 for already canvassing the brighter elements of the night for ITMers in the forum.
