After a bit of a mixup on the door, this actually led to one of the best Saturdays I’ve seen at The Academy in a long time. Descending down into the main room gave way to Milkbar Nicks’ waves of electro house. With him playing two hours at the start, he made sure the crowd was steaming. As it neared towards midnight, Milky finished off his set with a track from his favourite band Cut Copy – the Boys Noize Happy Birthday Remix of Lights and Music. Then it was Fraser’s turn.
Fraser began his set with Angello & Ingroso’s remix of Show Me Love vs Be, and the crowd erupted when the bass dropped. Further on through the night, Fraser kept the dancefloor packed with massive tracks from the Raw FM album. At one stage in the night, some idiot came up and asked me, “do you think they’ll play any R&B?” All I could say was, “did you know that tonight is the Raw FM launch?” “Ohh right” was his reply. But as long as Chris was on the decks (which was most of the night), the place was packed.
If the DJs weren’t enough (and they were), there were masses of free Raw FM stuff and glowsticks making sure everyone was rocking out. There must be something about glow-in-the-dark accessories that turns people into crazy glowing electro-loving fiends. All I can say is that Raw FM did a fantastic job of making sure the crowd was glowing, and jumping – and trust me, I love jumping.
