I had not been to Onelove in the longest time. Tank nightclub is located all the way down Bridge Lane and is a little isolated from the rest of the city nightlife, and is therefore not somewhere you stumble across on a night out. But due to the awesome venue as well as a lineup that was sure to impress anyone, I once again felt myself lured to that little club they call Tank.

But alas sometimes the best laid plans go to waste. With Germany’s Thomas Gold as well as Tommy Trash, Mat Nugent and John Glover on the cards, I was planning to be there early so as to not miss anything. Lets just say inbetween a broken arm and leaving my lights on in the hospital carpark, we didn’t arrive till around 11pm which was still only 2 hours in; we thought we’d be cool. But then there was the line. Don’t get me wrong, lines and clubs go hand in hand, but this line seemed to be there, merely for the sake of having one. The door man, though polite, seemed to chat for a few minutes to every last person. To check their ID? To waste time?? No idea as he let every one through anyway, but we lined up for close to an hour in the freezing cold. There were a mass of people at the roped off area so we thought it would be packed inside. It wasn’t. It wasn’t empty by any means, but as we ventured into the side rooms it was fairly sparse, with most of the crowd focused on the main floor.

By this stage Tommy Trash was in the midst of his set and the crowd was fully engaged. If you have never been to Tank the atmosphere there on a good night is electric, as was the feeling this night. Tommy was winding up the crowd with his unique style of dirty electro house like only he can. His set was awesome and the crowd ate it up. He was constantly engaging the crowd, with his charisma shining over the lights.

By the time Matt Nugent hit the decks I had realised we had missed the man we came to see, Thomas Gold. But Tommy was absolutely rad, so this was still going to be a decent night. I can only describe Matt’s set one way, and that is overly eclectic. He built and built, only in the end not to not bring the bass and the ferocity that the buildup (and the time slot) deserved. The crowd tried to get into it and several diehard partiers kept dancing the night away, but they slowly started to leave and by about 3:30am the club was pretty sparse, so we decided to call it a night. Something that detracted form the vibe was the sound system, there’s some major distortion problems in the main room that didn’t help Matt’s case at all and took away from what could have been a superb night.

What we did see was impressive all things considered, and from everyone that I spoke to Thomas Gold did not disappoint. I only wish I had seen them. It’s called a line guys, move it along! Might have to organise myself a bit of a trip to Germany to check him out.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
