With the results announced, the anticipation and excitement for inthemix50 is over for another year. All that’s left to do now is party-hard and celebrate Australia’s dance scene, as it has become apparent it’s in better shape than ever before! This could be observed easily when arriving at Tank for onelove for the Sony inthemix50 party on Saturday. The lines stretched up the alleyway and down Bridge Street as early as 10.30pm, meaning it was an estimated 45 minute wait before you even got to the bouncer. The perseverance was well worth the reward.
I ventured into the depths of Tank and into the heart of onelove, as the downstairs dancefloor was slowly but surely filling as the main acts readied to take the stage. When I arrived Gus Da Hoodrat was finishing up his set and Jaime Doom was about to come on. Doom put in a solid performance, dropping in a couple of classics like Zombie Nation, with strong electro beats maintained throughout. Nearing the end of his performance the crowd downstairs kicked up to full scale and the place was well and truly pumping. The crowd had an even ratio of girls and guys, which is always a good thing, but I noticed there were quite a few camera whores in the place (more male than female!) who had to take a picture of themselves doing anything and everything, always trying to be the centre of attention.
Tommy Trash was the next act to play, and everyone was excited to see how the DJ who grabbed the 10th position in NSW would prevail. The set was like a rollercoaster ride as he kept on building into his next track. There were long electro drum beats before he’d drop in something major like the new Sneaky track ‘Kansas City’ or something from fidget legend Switch. The set was good, but the crowd started dying out after a little while as it got somewhat repetitive.
After Tommy Trash had finished Matt Nugent came on and rejuvenated the dancefloor, mixing the craziest shit together which got the crowd going crazy. Nugent dropped everything from The Presets ‘My People’ to Diddy’s ‘Bad Boy for Life’ to Daft Punk’s ‘One More Time’, and the place hit hyper-drive. People started getting rowdy, cats were dancing without any pants on, and couples were reassuring each other that the night was nowhere near over. I bailed from the venue at about 4am, stumbling my way out into the heart of the city.
The inthemix50 party at onelove was a grand night out, as the venue had a great crowd and everyone had fun. The overall feeling was one of euphoria and I would highly recommend a visit to anyone that hasn’t tried it out yet!
