It had been a long time since I had crossed the floors of F4, and after having experienced a mid-week craving for some quality tunes, the decision for my Saturday night outing was made Pretty Simple.
Saturday night saw F4’s Pretty Simple host the second installment as part of the series of Sony ITM Top 50 parties. Showcasing a blend of established and new talent, the night was a celebration of Australia’s diverse club scene. Featuring acts such as Nubreed’s Danny Bonnici, old-time favourites and residents Dave Pham, Mike Callendar and Dean Millson, the night also welcomed a number of new local acts such as Myles Mac, Ben Pittard, Tom Evans, Nick Jones and Andy Hart .
Once inside the club, I made my way to the dancefloor where Danny Bonnici was dishing out his selection for the night – a fusion of deep and tech-house. The music wasn’t too heavy and just the right tempo to perfectly ease the punters into the night’s proceedings. The crowd seemed to be enjoying his set, and although the club was still fairly quiet, it only took about half an hour or so for the space to fill up at a vast speed.
Next up behind the decks was a one-on-one set featuring two of Melbourne’s veterans Mike Callendar and Dave Pham. I hadn’t heard these guys play in a long time and, well, I was in for a treat. Their choice of techno ensured that I was well and truly settled on the dancefloor. The guys looked like they were having fun playing together too, with the crowd embracing the music.
After wrapping up their set, Callendar and Pham passed the stage over to Dean Millson. By this time the crowd was still substantial, however it was obvious it was coming to that time of the night where the club slowly clears out. Having been very satisfied with the night’s proceedings, I decided my time at the club also needed to come to a close.
Overall, the night was great. It attracted a friendly and good spirited crowd, without many show ponies flaunting themselves. The music was also top-notch, proving my Pretty Simple choice was the right one to make.
