Parties come and go, so it’s always a big deal when a milestone is reached. The Clarity crew achieved one of these on Friday when they celebrated their first birthday. For a night that started with a few mates putting together tunes for a few of their friends, The Clarity has come a long way. Held at Brown Alley on a monthly rotation, the night has enjoyed some great success with new and familiar faces joining together for a night of quality tunes.

The party was spread across three rooms – with main, side, and chillout areas available. I hit up the side room first and caught the diminutive Inge Marsetio behind the decks. Proving that size isn’t everything, Inge played a great set that soon had the room bouncing.

Within the main I was greeted by some trippy visuals, a smoky haze from a belching machine, filtered lasers and one very enthusiastic Dave Juric behind the decks. With a crowd that was spread across three rooms it was always going to be difficult to fill out the main room, but Dave rose to the occasion like a professional. Slamming out thumping big-room progressive, the floor soon filled and some serious dancing was going on. A quick word with him after his set revealed what was obvious to the punters – Dave really enjoyed himself, maintaining a vibe that seems to carry through all the Clarity parties.

Melbourne stalwart Gavin Keitel took to the decks next, and immediately began to work his magic. The room lapped it up and it was a real treat to catch him for a full two hours. His track placement was exceptional, working towards buildups that complemented each other and the had the dance floor rocking.

Back in the side room was newcomer Pedo, a bedroom banger who has effectively made the transition to accomplished DJ. With liberal splashes of techno and prog in his sets, Pedo will be one to watch in Melbourne’s club scene with a versatile-style that seems to respond to the crowd.

Overall the night was terrific, and was a perfect example of what can be done in Melbourne when a crew is passionate about what they do and have their hearts in the right place. Thanks for a top night and here’s hoping there’s many more birthdays to come!

Luke Fowler, the late addition to the side room, put on the goods too, keeping a small following dancing while Gavin Keitel was on in the main room. Great work Luke!
