The inthemix50 poll is a national dance music institution. Many DJs use the poll as a way to negotiate an increase in what they get paid for their work behind the decks, and from a clubber’s perspective it gives the opportunity to vote for the DJs who’ve made you move and groove over the past year that you think deserve recognition. The inthemix50 hit the road in August and September, with last Friday seeing Adelaide’s final two shows taking place at Dragonfly and Earth. I popped into the Dragonfly show first, I’m here to talk about the Earth show.

Being in a club before it opens, you’re aklways a little anxious as you wonder how much a success the night is going to be – but it was an anxious feeling that quickly evaporated. From the moment the doors opened at 10pm the club filled with eager clubbers, and by the end of Madusa’s set at 11.30, there was a comfortable feel in the air as more people were ready to get their groove on. I eventually took over from Madusa’s funky introduction and thoroughly enjoyed it, as the dancefloor filled up with punters who cared about nothing other than dancing and having a good time. The kind of crowd every DJ loves to play to, one that responds to everything you do. By 12.30 the club was busy, and DJ JoSH, who placed a close 2nd place in the ‘SA Top 10’, took over from me. The vibe kept building as usual with her sets and by 1.30am the club was cranking. JoSH has quite the following, and if I had a dollar for the amount of times I’ve been asked “what time is JoSH playing?” over the last 8 years, well, I’d have enough money to run my car for a year!

It was great to have the opportunity to talk to a lot of the punters on the night, having a chat about their views on inthemix and the ITM50 results. Many people were very surprised at some of the placings in our top 10, but hey there’s nothing wrong with a bit of controversy is there? Looking around and seeing so many people enjoying themselves with such abandon is a rare thing, and the crowd there on Saturday night were quite up for it. As the night pushed on, DJs RE, Mr S (who placed a number 9 position in the ‘SA Top 10’) and finally Odyssey, took the party where all the party goers wanted it to go. Through electro, trance and pumping dance.

So to all that attended, and all fans of inthemix.com, a big thankyou for your support and you can look forward to more excellent ITM parties over the coming year. Big up to yourselves!
