Dragonfly is a venue that needs little introduction. Its popularity amongst the inthemix audience, and the public generally, speaks for itself. Therefore, it seemed fitting to have one of the Sony inthemix50 parties hosted there! Lush red lighting adorns the walls of the funky and quaint venue, with modern art, fascinating furniture and a tantalising wine list boasting some of the best reds that I have personally ever sampled. Not to mention the tunes, but I’ll get to that later! This is a bar which stands alone, with great appeal and style.
What a few months it has been for the Sony inthemix50, with parties galore around the country, and DJs and promoters getting the recognition that they undeniably deserve on a national scale. Tonight was the third Sony inthemix50 month party held this year in Adelaide, and unfortunately it seemed as if some of the party-goers were a tad partied out? Surprisingly, the crowd was undersized for what I was expecting to be a large event. Perhaps people had decided to go elsewhere for their fun on the town? Despite the lack of a big crowd in attendance, the crowd that were there were friendly, up for a chat, and quite relaxed in the decadent surroundings.
DJs Martin and Jayde spun their tunes back to back earlier in the night, with John Citizen taking over for the remainder of the night. A man who has been spinning his techno grooves for over a decade and has played a major role in keeping this historic genre alive and kicking, as I sat back and watched him in action he served up a reverie of chilled beats, flowing one into the other, before raising the tempo with some faster tempo stuff as the set moved on. Techno is a genre that does something to the senses. A collaboration of melodies can be played with an air of relaxation, and it sets an ambiance and creates a feel. It can bring crowds to their feet and take control. Tonight John Citizen certainly managed to create a feel, setting a tone for this venue which thrives on delivering fresh underground beats.
Dragonfly + techno; a combination that’s hard to resist. A small but passionate crowd got to experience it, and may the next few parties there be better and larger than ever!
