The posters for the event which adorned the walls at Ambar kept reminding me that Force Majeure was an uncontrollable event. I thought this was kind of ironic, as I had experienced a series of uncontrollable events all day Friday, culminating in me being incredibly late for the gig. I was on the verge of giving up altogether and simply going to bed. I’m glad I decided to drag myself along, because Force Majeure quickly made me forget the day I’d had. As a result, I’d humbly like to ask the promoters to change the name of the next gig to “Nothing Could Possibly Go Wrong”, so at least that way I can get there on time!

Tha Beatslappaz were already behind the decks when I finally arrived, and I was greeted with the familiar sounds of the Plump DJs Shifting Gears, which quickly had me out and on the dancefloor. Once I was there I didn’t want to stop dancing, and judging by the smiles on faces around me it seemed everyone else was having a great time too. I’d have to say that this was one of the best sets I’ve heard from these guys, and it featured some really diverse tracks. Normally any Sneaky Sound System gets a massive thumbs down from me, but somehow Tha Beatslappaz made it work. Collie Buddz Come Around was a standout track, however it seemed like the biggest crowd response was for the last track, another one from the Plumps, Rocket Soul. The dancefloor literally erupted when this song came on, everybody cheering and clapping for more.

Next up were twelve10, and the boys were certainly determined to bring it home hard. I’m also told that it was Matt’s first time playing at Ambar, and what a debut he turned out! There was no letting up in the pace, with broken beats still coming hard and fast. In accordance, nobody on the dancefloor showed any signs of wanting to leave. There was a lot of cheering and clapping going on, so it was hard to tell who was having a better time… the audience or the DJs! The promoters had promised tough beats and the DJs certainly delivered. I haven’t experienced sets where I couldn’t drag myself from the dancefloor in quite a while. There was an infectiously good mood throughout Ambar, and the whole evening had a great party vibe. Next time you are having a bad day, keep your fingers crossed that another installment of Force Majeure is on soon, because it will certainly get you in a good mood.
