As someone who writes for inthemix, I should really be ‘in the know’. I say this because after spending the last few months tied up with work commitments, I’ve neglected my two great loves – listening to music and having a social life. So in an urgent response to this I decided head to Transit Bar for a night of finger ‘Llik, llik, llik-ing’ musical goodness…

This was the second time that Llik Llik Llik had cooked up a storm at Transit Bar and as anticipated, the night was fun and full of flavour. Ronnie Gordon was Friday night’s special served with a side of solid supports including local favourite Scottie Fischer, Alex McLeod, Biggie and Bruisa. The crew put on a great show, kicking off around 9pm and kept Transit Bar alive into the early hours of the morning.

Thinking back on the fun night I had, there is only one way I could describe the music. The sets that were served up just made me want to metaphorically umm… ‘llik’ my plate clean (think chocolate cake). The taste, or in this case, sound, was full of body, containing lighter and darker sections, smooth transitions between spoonfuls (in this case, tracks) and was most importantly, rich in flavour… sweetened with a bit of tech, house, indie, minimal and nu disco.

By around 10:30pm, the bar had started to fill with punters and the dance floor was moving into a solid groove. One feature track early on in the night was a remix of Cut Copy’s Hearts on Fire boasting a tech-noir sound… so good, that lured me to the dance floor. Soon after, Scottie Fischer took hold of the decks playing a sweet blend of steady beats that pulsated through the room. Scottie delivered a consistent set that seemed almost effortless; enticing the crowd to come closer to the stage.

Having played awesome sets at the last ‘Llik’ session, Alex McLeod, Biggie and Bruisa once again rose to the occasion. Their sounds were solid and energetic, giving the punters a fun-fix that had them bouncing off the walls. The evening’s special Ronnie Gordon lived up to his title, delivering what can only be described as an exuberant set. Just like any main meal it was skilfully constructed and garnished with a twist. Ronnie’s set was full of great sounds, great tunes, backed with an enthusiasm that sparked it all.

Transit Bar was definitely the best choice of venue for the Llik Llik Llik club night. It has an ‘underground-meets-eclectic-cool’ kind of feel to it. The location is semi-incognito, the atmosphere is intimate, the sound quality is solid and the vibe is always chilled. This time was nothing short of it. Not to mention the outdoor table service, the friendly bar staff and the all-night free-entry. Nice one!

The aftertaste left by the night is nothing short of sweet. I’m already looking forward to my next taste of that sticky, ‘llik-y’ flavour…
