Don’t you wish you could attend a party and take home with you some of the tracks to remind you of those good times that took place? Those who were lucky enough to attend the SHE Summer Essentials Rooftop Launch at Cruise Bar received that opportunity, as most people walked away with a free promo sampler CD. SHE is a crew that kicked things off in 2004, and since have played host at numerous Sydney locations and providing those seeking quality house music a chance to gather and share a ‘Soulful House Experience’. In 2008 SHE is raising the bar higher at each event, continuing to deliver some our city’s must-attend house music events.

Having arrived close to sunset, little time was needed to take in the amazing breathtaking Sydney harbour surroundings; this was the perfect place to capture what SHE aimed to do, and the Cruise Bar rooftop made for the perfect fit. Having only attended a few SHE events in the past, friends and I arrived to find Danny De Sousa on the decks and with the Opera House and Circular Quay in the background, it was perfectly suited for this image.

A yell from the crowd let others know that Marc Us was on the decks as it grew cooler by the waterfront, but it had no impact on the warming tunes that the ever-increasing and friendly crowd couldn’t stop dancing to. Tracks that were dropped included Given Me Joy Marc Evens remix and Get Up by Byron Stingily Parade, together with many others that are featured on the SHE Summer Essentials CD.

Later in the night those who weren’t dancing by now had no excuse. This was also the first time that I had the chance to listen to Nick Vidal play, and I was not disappointed. Together with sax from Mark Matthews and bongo beats provided by Adam Jacob, it added to the ever growing smile on people’s faces, with the music coming just that little more alive.

After leaving for a short time to grab a quick bite to eat, we didn’t want to miss out on any of the action so we returned to the impressive night session with Paul Hatz to close, and also joined by Graham Cordery behind the decks too. People raised their hands and tried to challenge the vocals of Finally by Kings of Tomorrow, which is always a pleasing crowd favourite.

Cruise management then told Paul and Graham to finish up, after one more track pleaded by the crowd, the party had to come to a close unfortunately. If you are seeking to find out what ‘Soulful House Experience’ is all about head down to ‘Hush’, the weekly event held by SHE at Trademark Hotel in Kings Cross, and grab a copy of SHE Summer Essentials CD which is out now.
