This months’ edition of Llik Llik Llik brought the likes of Gavin Keitel to Transit bar flaunting some funky tech house with progressive and minimal elements thrown in.

Biggie opened the night smoothly, embracing the chilled atmosphere where you could still hold a conversation inside. Biggie most notably dropped Alexander Robotnick and In Flagranti mixing his disco tech house and minimal expertly. The crowd began to build seemingly in time with the beat and this trend was set to continue through out the night.

Gabe followed Biggie set with a similar vibe, though with more of a focus on tech house and techno. The Llik DJ’s have such a great synergy going that their set changes are near flawless as one DJ slowly morphs into their own groove from the last. I think I even heard a bit of Mark Romboy thrown in amongst Gabe’s upbeat tech house set. With the music occupying and entrancing those inside, punters still filled the beer garden to listen to the tech house beats drifting down the street.

In true Llik resident fashion Nico bridged Gabe’s session smoothly and with a massive grin. You can tell these boys love their sets and genuinely have fun playing together. The order in which each DJ plays often varies and the Llik residents are versatile and flexible enough to play according to the vibe of the crowd over the course of the night. Nico even threw a Radioslave cracker in to his techno and tech house set that had the punters at the front dancing and the barflies at back head-bobbing subconsciously.

After Nico’s highly motivating curtains up, Gavin Keitel took to the stage instantly bringing out a hybrid and mish mash of tech house, minimal and some funky progressive tunes. Gavin’s tech house set started out slowly (and perhaps repetitively) but it heated up with the crowd half way through, for once not in time with the room temperature. I don’t know if Transit’s air conditioning has been fixed but it was damn near pleasant in there – even on stage. Gavin’s one and a half hour set played out beautifully, tracks came in smoothly and the beats just kept rolling. A regular in a black baseball cap busted it out on stage compulsively whilst entertaining and inspiring the crowd. The vocal overlays were funky as all get out and the rhythms kept the consistent trend of the night. Gavin’s 18 years of experience translated into an almost flawless set, never skipping a beat and dropping them on target every time.

Alex McLeod closed the night with an audible change in pace from Gavin’s set. Alex took it up yet another notch, keeping the people. Thanks to Alex there was no exodus after the headliner tonight! Alex cracked out a banging techno and tech house set featuring the beats of Patrice Baumel and Nick Cachona. The dance floor was still pulsating and those who were there were there to stay. Punters slowly and reluctantly dribbled out of the club after Alex’s set around 3 am, all well and truly satisfied with great funky sets from Mr Keitel and the local boys.

Next on Llik’s roster is Melbourne’s Dave Pham but keep your eyes and, more importantly, ears open for one hell of a techno headliner from New York in February – my lips are sealed.

No matter if you lap it up or if you drink it down always remember to Llik it up.
