Back in town not too long since his last visit, Anthony Pappa played Rise on Friday night, delivering another quality set to a very up-for-it crowd. Whilst some may think Rise is an unlikely venue for sounds of that variety, it once again proved to fare well with a packed dance floor full of appreciative punters all night long. Support for the night was in the form of locals Sean Chee, Travis and Chris Rodgers who complemented the headliners sounds and overall, the night was yet another quality foray into the sounds of 4/4.

Sean Chee had warm up duties and proceeded to play a class set of tech house, moving from the deeper stripped back variety right the way through to a heavier and more layered sound. His track selections appeared to be enjoyed by many and it wasn’t long before there was a fairly happening dancefloor below him. One particularly enthusiastic punter was letting loose like it was well past midnight, credit to him for getting into it regardless of the time of night.

As midnight approached, so too did Anthony Pappa into the DJ booth and as he put down his first few tracks it appeared he was in form and on fire once more. From there, he took the room on one of his unique and trademark journeys. Keeping it held back somewhat for the first hour of his set, he managed to build the sound gradually and as a result, the dance floor too.

By the time his second hour was in full effect, it was notably a lot heavier and at times you would be forgiven for forgetting it was actually Anthony Pappa behind the decks, as he belted through a much harder take on the 4/4 format. Just as he worked in right into a crescendo, Pappa then stripped it away layer by layer, taking it much deeper for the last hour of his set. The master of the journey set had once again delivered and he received a massive round of props from the crowd for his amazing efforts.

A rather abrupt and sudden change in tempo followed as Travis took to the decks next with his banging techno selections. A few classics smattered throughout his set seemed to be enjoyed by many and he kept the dance floor happening for his sets entirety. Chris Rodgers then followed and kept the club rocking until close. His track selections were perfect for the time of night and the dance floor below him was a testament to this.

Once again the master of the journey set well and truly delivered. It’s always promising to see such an enthusiastic crowd getting down to the sounds of 4/4 and one can only hope he is back in Perth soon.
