Kaskade is one of the US scene’s most notable proprietors of beautiful, largely vocal house music. Pang!, along with SeventySeven, were kind enough to bring the man down to Canberra for the Australia Day long weekend, providing the nation’s capital with a night of proper house music.
Dave Norgate, Ashley Feraude and Michael O’Rourke had the pleasure of warming up, whipping the crowd into a frenzy and playing brilliant sets full of house in many forms. Bouncy, deep, smooth, vocal, piano, just about every type, of house music got a run. There was no electro to be heard whatsoever, and tonight most would have considered that a good thing! Although some may have preferred a deep house set, ala Miguel Migs and the Naked Music style, one needed to take into account the crowd and the vibe of the night, so the warm-ups did an admirable job.
Kaskade came on, at the non-advertised time (which was a very good idea!) of 2:40am, and immediately opened with ‘I Remember’, putting the crowd into a hypnotic hands in the air frame of mind. He followed it soon after with the EDX Remix of ‘Angel on My Shoulder’, which is probably the best track of the past year, enough said. The set dipped up and down like a roller coaster, going into smoother jazzy moments and bouncy, jackin’ times. It made you wish you had a larger head and a longer neck. I don’t dance, mostly because those around me would be in danger if I did, so tonight I just sat there, bouncing, coming up with amazing ideas for music (which had all disappeared the next day, of course).
Minque is a brilliant venue for parties like this, as you’re able to sit outside and soak up the sounds or be inside and have it forced upon you. PA_Sime had done a flawless sound set-up, as usual, with sound that allowed you to listen to the music without it overpowering you and causing pain. A top night once again, I can’t wait until next time.
