Lounge is a bit of a second home for a few people as you can go for there for a meal, drink after work and hear some good music at the same time. I was there on this particular night for the launch of SLAP! The lineup tonight included some of Melbourne’s stalwarts of the club scene and also some newcomers that have been making waves the last couple of years.
At just before 12am lounge there was a few people there, although it was that ‘in-between’ the afterwork drinks crowd and the club crowd. Most people were enjoying the mild weather out on the balcony. Ant J Steep was first up and he was playing some laid back house and minimal. The sound system was good and it was complimenting what Steep was playing, the bass kept in place and the midrange and highs were a highlight as there were some nice melodies in what he was playing.
Not long after Sam Fraser took to the decks. I haven’t seen Sam play since Republic days and was curious to here was he was playing these days. He was slightly deeper than Steep, but still laid back. I liked what was being played it was laid back and had some nice drum and rhythmic sections, the buildups were not over the top too, just the way I like it.
It didn’t take long though for the dancefloor to begin to fill up. The tunes started to get a bit more melodic and slightly epic with a lot of the tracks containing percussion through them which I really enjoy listening to. As usual the crowd was quite eclectic and always up for some fun.
One of their favourite people to do that is Nadine. Having made a big splash on the scene for the last couple of years, she has found herself on many a bills around the city. Everytime i have seen her play it has been quality, and this time was no different. She took it from minimal all the way to more banging techno. It was fun to listen and dance too! The crowd agreed as they were dancing along with me. You don’t need a reason to go to Lounge, but this was just puts the icing on the cake.
