Aphrodite @ Shape, Perth (06/02/09)

From the word go, this was always going to be a large gig. Inhibit and edm.promotions brought over legendary veteran DJ/producer Aphrodite for a highly anticipated gig in Perth on Friday February 6th at Shape. A thick line of eager ticketless punters trailed alongside the barrier of the club prior to doors opening, hoping to snap up the 50 odd door sales left over after pre-sale tickets sold out. Meanwhile, those who pre-purchased poured in to the club, packing it out like sardines in a tin can.
Inhibit crew regulars Access, Illusive, Bear and Sempy provided support, with a relative newcomer to the Perth scene, New Zealand born Sabin opening the night at 10pm. Come 11pm, Access hit the decks with a set that took more than a few pages from the Ram Records book, all the while keeping most DnB heads happily rocking out on the floor. Illusive kept things flowing, doing his best to amp up the overzealous crowd, not that they needed much encouragement.
Energy and temperature were both raised as Aphrodite stepped up to a 300 strong crowd for his headliner set. He played a range of new tracks for the most part, and also broke it down to the old school sounds – which I suspect most were looking forward to the most – towards the end of his set. Intensity ran high through the whole performance, and a consistently packed dancefloor was a definite indication of approval from the crowd.
As per usual, Inhibit did what they do best. They consistently provide top quality international drum and bass DJs to Perth. Keep it up boys; all the DnB heads love your work!
