There were beads of sweat dripping from the rafters of Canberra’s Transit Bar on Saturday night. A horde of punters packed inside the venue like a can of sardines, creating a thick layer of excitement and sweat. It was all in the name of love, for Aussie hip-hop legends, Muph N Plutonic were back in the nation’s capital and ready to put on a stellar show.

Having seen the Melbourne duo do their thang at last year’s Trackside festival, my expectations were high and my musical appetite was craving something raw and flavoursome. Luckily, Muph N Plutonic worked the room
with their rough around the edges meets smooth and sophisticated’ charm; proving more than pleasing.

One thing I noticed about Muph N Plutonic’s performance was just how much these boys have grown since their humble beginnings. The boys have worked hard over the last few years, producing quality tunes and pumping out authentic live shows; therefore pushing the boundaries of Aussie hip hop and taking them to a whole new level.

The gig was no doubt a crowdpleaser. The venue was well-chosen as the vibe was intimate and the sound quality was excellent. I was particularly impressed with the quality vocals of MC Muph, which were made sweeter when teamed with the wicked beats that Plutonic was putting down. Together, Muph N Plutonic had a stage presence that was raw and energetic, therefore ticking all the boxes that say ‘tight performance’.

Muph N Plutonic served up a tasty selection of tunes, both old and new, including all the favourites like Paracetamol, It’s Your Day Off , Heaps Good, So Beautiful So Ugly and Don’t Worry ‘Bout Nothing. The punters were loving every minute as they congregated around the stage, singing along in excitement, complete with hands up in the air. The pair drew the crowd in using call and response and some oh-so-sexy-scratch that sizzled my schnizzle. What was apparent was just how much fun the boys were having whilst on stage, in turn, sending the rest of us into a frenzy.

Overall, it was a solid show and I thoroughly enjoyed getting amongst it. A special shout out should be made to support acts DJ Bonez and Horrorshow who warmed up the crowd on the night. One thing that I can take away from this experience is that Muph N Plutonic are just one of the reasons why Aussie hip-hop is alive and kicking. Well done boys!
