Transforming a restaurant into a nightclub is hit or miss, and having dined at Shamiana during the day I set off to check it out with an open mind in nightclub mode, all the while not expecting much. Walking down the steps I was pleasantly surprised by the actual space it offers as a club, sans chairs and tables. It’s also a plus for an establishment when their staff are friendly and efficient, so props to the delightful bar people.
Drinks in hand I was now hoping to be treated to a good night and Temptation did not disappoint. Having been a fan of Adam Bartas since the glory days of the original Two Floors Up I was looking forward to seeing what he would do in a venue such as Shamiana. Kicking off the night Sammy B built his set up starting with a bit of commercial tunes moving on to funkier and slightly harder electro seamlessly. Dropping tracks by Chromeo and remixes of Kings of Leon and even Dr Dre, it had me moving, and the growing crowd of punters were also getting down to the appropriate mix of commercial and not so commercial music.
Having opened the doors at 10 it was nice to see a fairly full venue within a period of only 45 minutes. Continuing in the same train of thought that Sammy B had started, Silver Six jumped on and you wouldn’t have noticed a change in DJs. Transitions were smooth and Silver Six kept the music at a good mix of harder sounding electro, with enough of commercial to keep the average punter interested. It was a perfect set up for Bartas to come on and do what he does best. By 2am the club was well and truly full and getting to the dancefloor took a bit of navigation. To the crowd’s credit it was a well behaved, good looking and friendly bunch, which only added to the pleasant vibe that lasted the entire night. It goes without saying that Adam did not disappoint. Playing off the crowd’s energy, and he had the entire dancefloor moving even if they weren’t necessarily dancing.
Opening nights are usually a good judging point of whether it’ll be an ongoing success, and to Temptation’s credit the good mix of music, friendly promoters and fun loving crowd should hold the crew at Sapphire Productions in good stead for quite a while. All in all I had a great night out and would recommend Temptation to anyone.
