If you haven’t heard about Trance Energy of late, then you’ve been living under a rock! The trance music festival which toured Australia last month is the inspiration behind the new CD release Trance Energy, a triple-CD compilation mixed by Sean Tyas, Simon Patterson and local Melbourne DJ Trent McDermott. The new release is also the motivation behind Trancefusion’s latest night at Live on Light Square. Featuring a tasty lineup of Adelaide’s finest trance DJs alongside special guests Julian Reynolds and Trent McDermott himself, trance fans would’ve been mad to stay in from the cold to miss this night!
Two rooms were presented full of sweet toons and comfortable surroundings, with Nic Borrelli kicking off the night’s proceedings in the front room mixing a blend of deep and tech house that greeted all who walked through the door. In the back room going back to back was DJs Steve R and 2J, both new to Trancefusion nights and with it being 2J AKA Matt Tolley’s first set to date. You wouldn’t know it though! Both lads stepped up to the plate displaying confidence and skill hitting the crowd with Tenishia Everything (Tim Grube Vocal Mix), Nadia Ali Love Story (Dresden & Johnston Vocal Mix) and the Gareth Emery feat Delerium This is Silence mashup. Guest DJ Julian Reynolds was very excited to be playing here tonight and spun his tunes next to a relatively quiet front room, entertaining those who strolled through. Displaying a cheeky and entertaining vibe behind the decks, this local Melbourne boy is great to watch and its times like this I wish I could cut myself in two and be in both rooms at the same time. The backroom kept pumping out the quality trance with local favourite Cetra who always knows how to deliver an outstanding set full of new and up-to-date tunes.
Live was slowly filling up, with punters hanging around the front area with mates, grooving in the front room or chilling on the lounges and comfy giant beanbags. Solace, a true veteran of the Adelaide trance scene, had his turn next in the back room, with Adelaide vocal trance performer Aphena Fury accompanying him on the mic and room filling up as she made her entrance. The intensity of the crowd could be felt as Solace pumped out some proggy goodness, with build ups that left the crowd gasping for more. I was very impressed by this duo, which had the crowd eating out of the palm of their hands. Aphena Fury definitely knows how to show her theatrical and bold personality through performance, belting out Dash Berlin’s Man on the Run and she had the eager crowd singing along in unison, me included. My only gripe was the sound seemed way too loud towards the end of the set.
What an amazing opening for the man of the evening, Trent McDermott! Not slowing the pace down one bit, he continued to drop massive tune after tune throughout his 2-hour set like Three Drives Greece 2000 (Sander Van Dien Remix), Ferry Corsten Made of Love (Duderstadt remix), Sean Tyas’s massive mix of Airwave that absolutely tore the place apart and a slice of Adelaide with Systembot vs 33 Never Be Alone, before wrapping it up with his own remix with Tydi of Rank 1’s L.E.D. There Be Light, which is featured on the CD itself. Exceeding all my expectations, he literally blew me away and I found myself dancing to his entire set, not wanting it to end. I was completely enthralled the whole time, and I can see this young gun has certainly brought with him the experience and talent he gained from his recent tour with ID&T. Just outstanding! Chatting to him after his set, he said he had so much fun up there that 2 hours felt like 45 minutes. Wow this is a DJ that I’m hoping we will see much more of in the future.
The front room was pumping away with local Fresh FM Global Trance hosts Brett James and DJ Contagious, always a favourite with the crowd, while Trancefusion’s DJ Frost continued on the mayhem in the back room. It’s really quite amazing to see the progress this local DJ/promoter has made in the last 12 months, and it shows. Recently playing on the Melbourne leg of the Trance Energy festival, DJ Frost continues to be dedicated to the scene in Adelaide contributing his enthusiasm and generosity.
So my verdict is in, satisfying, sensational, uplifting, electrifying a night full of quality tunes and entertainment! What more can you ask for? What out for the next Trancefusion event coming your way soon.
