Going into the Ministry of Sound Sessions 6 tour it was with mixed feeling that I approached Academy. Would it be a crazy, massive night or would it be a night to annoy with not enough people to support the fine array of talent on display?
Rocking up at 11PM I figured things would be getting underway, and walking down to the main room I was very surprised by the number of people down there already – certainly a good start to the night! The first thing that struck me was the big house tunes that Hugh Foster was playing – there were quite a few on the dance floor already enjoying themselves and Hugh looked like he was having fun up there too!
Midnight came and looking around the dance floor was packed, as were the above area of seating and standing room around the bar. At this time Ladyhawke – My Delerium got played with a chunky bassline showing the Academy sound system to it’s finest. The crowd were loving it and when Goodwill came on you could barely move on the dance floor as the floor shaking bass continued. Goodwill continued to build up his set and threw in a bunch of club anthems (including MGMT – Kids) to have the crowd enraptured.
Following Goodwill’s final moments, Tommy Trash’s arrival was nothing short of spectacular! Marilyn Manson – Beautiful People, and Rage Against The Machine – Killing in the Name of got the whole crowd going absolutely nuts as he played more massive anthems whilst using the effects mercilessly. After the intense opening the crowd was able to settle into more of a routine dancing the night away until Kernkraft 400 – Zombie Nation_ sent the crowd absolutely nuts again.
Despite the fact that the crowd was beginning to thin out Tommy Trash continued to drop massive club anthems like Benny Benassi – Satisfaction causing the floor to fill up with writhing bodies once again.
The trusty Tim Galvin followed on the decks with the crossover tune Sidney Samson – Riverside, bringing more energy into the room despite the early time of morning. Following this were many more solid tunes with the thinning crowd still enjoying the beats being pumped their way.
In short, all the DJs played fantastic sets however it was Tommy Trash as the pick for me. I loved the Academy sound system as did the rest of the crowd. Following the massive success of this event I have no doubt that the MOS Sessions CD will be a massive seller and the next tour is already being eagerly anticipated.
