Infusion has recently released their new album All Night Sunlight – their first since Six Feet Above Yesterday (released 5 years ago in 2004) and are currently touring Oz to promote it. Having seen them play live before I was eager to catch them again – even if it was on a Wednesday night.

The Amplifier Bar hosted the gig, which was a bit odd as you would think Capitol would make for a better venue – especially for an electronic dance act. I’ve always viewed Amplifier as more of an alternative venue and have vague recollections of rocking out to a death metal band there. Luckily The Amplifier did Infusion justice and didn’t detract from the night at all.

For starters we had the Blade Jackson DJs playing a selection of tech-house tunes to get us in the mood, and after a short wait The Dirty Secrets cranked up. Playing a set of mostly electronic-infused rock they got the night off to a good start. For me their sound was a tad generic for the most part with some of their more rocky stuff being the highlight of the set. That said they are a band who I would keep an eye on as some of their newer songs showed promise.

After another brief interval Infusion stepped up and punched out their hits Girls Can Be Cruel and Gotta Leave Now. This was followed by a banging jam session with wicked guitar samples and improvised vocals – a definite highlight for me.

Next Infusion played Daylight Hours – a big change of tempo from the jam which had some people heading outside for smokes and another beer while others made their discontent heard. I didn’t mind too much as I thought it was a good way to break up their set, even if it did slow things down a bit.

The rest of the night resumed the up tempo feel that the jam had with the band kicking out their hooky track All That’s In Your Head, _Dogtown_and the big tunes Natural and Jealous Kind. The crowd lapped it up with some serious dancing, and even neck breaking moshing. Now I can’t say I have been to every Infusion gig, but I think this could be the first time that they have seen head banging. Go Amplifier!

After the obligatory break, Infusion busted out Better World for the finale. The crowd was still shouting for more once they had finished – a testament to the quality of the musical delights which had been served up.

All in all I had a great time at Infusion, they have retained their excellent and energetic, jump-around
stage presence and I love watching Jamie Stevens bounce around with the limitless energy of an energizer bunny. I will be sure to catch Infusion next time they are in town and lets hope next time we get to see them play in a bigger venue, and on a non-school night.
