Descending into the belly of Platinum and entering through the doors, you’re immediately engulfed by the sheer size of the venue. The spaciousness of the large dancefloor and the massive bar inhabited by a few lounges is immediately striking. It’s a great place to hide in a few corners or take the chance to run onto the dancefloor. And on this night, the floor was already inhabited by a few bodies as the coloured lasers transformed the floor into a freakish wonderland. Platinum Resident DJ Craig Roberts was filling up the venue with his blend of house beats and uplifting melodies, his smooth relaxed tracks creating an enjoyable and easy-going atmosphere for people continuously streaming in.
He was then followed by ITM50 #8 DJ Raye Antonelli, who started to pick up the pace on the dance floor. Under his guidance, the dance floor became an episode of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ as an epidemic of shuffling, floor bopping and hip swinging responded to his downtempo rhythms. Famed for his thumping basslines and ripping big room beats, Raye was beautifully in tune with the laidback crowd for this night. He seduced his audience onto the dancefloor, coaxing the crowd into losing their inhibitions and stepping over the social boundaries. Kid Cudi’s tune Day n Night was a particular highlight, as he fused the popular tune with experimental sounds, wayward altos and organic beats.
Onelove regular, DJ Chardy came out next, speakers blaring with his ever popular formula of smart house music. He played with a high energy progressive edge, combining a constantly driving beat with silky vocal tunes that aroused arms to flail in the air as a few more couples came running to the dance floor. Alluring tunes captured the bulk of the crowd as though Chardy was a wizard casting a spell. His smoldering tracks smote each person a pumping blow as the rampant beat worked their way up from the dancefloor to each person’s heart to throb in their veins. A mix of nineties tunes, Ministry Of Sound house anthems amid tracks from The Chemical Brothers almost sounded a little cheesy in his mix of house experimentation, but was saved by a warm melting pot of Detroit techno beats and innovative applications. Three Girls by Pump The Disco followed by Bass Kleph’s Doov’ elicited a massive response from the crowd.
It was definitely a great night for inthemix50 as the Gold Coast kids showed Queensland how to party ITM50 style. With the large crowd braving the cool conditions outside, Platinum Nightclub was certainly making its own heat on the dancefloor with the beats of Craig Roberts, Raye Antonelli and Chardy resounding long into the night.
