Now being in my clubbing twilight years, i am only going to gigs where i have not seen the DJ play before or they are one of my favourites. Having been introduced to Isolee recently and really enjoying his production, i was pleasently surprised to hear that he would be touring with the Beck’s Berlin Sessions.

We arrived at the Prince Of Wales at about 1AM and were lucky enough to catch the end of Arto Mwambé’s set. He was setting the groove up nicely and was playing some laid back vocal house tunes. It was good to see him getting into it too, having a dance behind the decks.

The sound was rather good too, not too loud and bassy and the crowd on hand was an interesting mix of house and techno fans crossed with the quintessential Prince Of Wales crowd.

Not long after Arto’s set, Isolee started up and took things on a more minimal tip with slight atmospherics undercut with a nice bassline. He continued on with that bassline throughout his set but mixed up the highs and mids. Also going for a few minutes at a time with no bass. We seemed to hang on every sound and each of his movements, it was the sort of set you really appreciate. It was so different to anything else I had heard, each track was an event in it’s own.

Solomun was being patient as Isolee was playing slightly over time, however when he did start, he kept the flow going by playing more ‘traditional’ sounds.

My twilight legs were feeling it at this time so we decided to leave, mind you, the place was as full as it had been all night. I have to thank the Beck’s crew as i really appreciated going to a quality gig such as this.
