It’s been around a year and a half since I’ve had the opportunity to see Peewee Ferris play in Perth, so that’s as good an excuse I need to get myself down to the Rise to support one of Australia’s finest DJ/ Producers.

Peewee Ferris takes to the DJ booth around 1 AM and kicks off his set with some dirty electro. The name of the tune escapes me, but it was phat and grimy and the punters on the dancefloor are loving it.

Unfortunately for Peewee, Rise is relatively empty tonight. This may be due to the fact that Ministry of Sound is throwing a party across the tracks, but nonetheless, the select few that are at Rise tonight are enjoying what Peewee has to offer.

The energy levels are high as the set flows along into some bangin’ trance. Alot of the tunes sound really new and perhaps unreleased. Peewee has always been at the forefront of the Australian dance scene, and some of his career highlights are astounding! This man composed original soundtracks for the opening and closing ceremonies at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, which reached an audience of over 4 billion people!

At around the half-way mark in his 3 hour set, Peewee switches back to the more electro-styled sounds, funky and fresh, and keeping the peeps on the dancefloor bopping along. The last hour or so goes back to trance, awesome bangers with euphoric breakdowns.

It’s a shame that there wasn’t many people out for Peewee. I have always enjoyed his work, more so when he leaned further towards the harder styles, but he has always been and always will be a great DJ and performer.
