Ministry of Sound a name well-known within the club scene brought its Trance Nation tour to one of Adelaide’s most popular night spots, HQ. Promoting the new Trance Nation CD was none other than Australian’s fastest rising star, tyDi, who was picked by MOS to mix their new complication along side trance superstars – Above and Beyond. Joining him on the line-up was a group of Adelaide finest up and coming and veteran trance DJ’s.

In a town where some say trance is dead, such was certainly not the case on this buzzing Friday night. Arriving just after the doors opened, a huge line of trance fans congregated outside the well known night club. Entering the main room is generally an exhilarating feeling, especially when trance is pumping from the large sound system, and this was no exception. The room was already bustling with activity as Steve R delivered the first set of the night, a set I’m sure he will remember for a long time.

HQ’s smaller outdoor bar, Soho was due to open at 9pm, but didn’t let fans in until 10pm. Starting off behind the controls were Reload vs Guyfi entertaining the ever-growing crowd with proggy trance. Upstairs in Gabrielle’s room, Adelaide’s Enchanted Crew had their own separate hard dance event which also extended to Soho’s inside area, spilling forth a dose of hard dance that didn’t really mesh well with the outdoor trance tunes. HQ decided to open all the doors to the venue that night which had both groups mixing throughout the massive venue and lucky attendees were able to go to two events for the price of one.

Heading back into the main room, Josh a veteran in the Adelaide scene, was behind the decks delivering a banging to uplifting trance set to her fans that lapped it up.

It wasn’t long until Soho was absolutely filled to the brim, as Adelaide’s own Micky D secured his spot behind the decks and delivered Touch Me – Rui da Silva a classic old skool track, followed by Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren – You Never Said, a favourite of mine which had the crowd singing along.

Before long the main act tyDi was on with a progressive trance mix. Massive lasers beamed over the large main room which looked impressive. I decided to head back to Soho and watch Cetra, well known Adelaide Trance DJ and creator of Trancesa.com, offering a diverse and varied mix of tunes.

Heading back into the main room, which had reduced in crowd size slightly, tyDi laid down tunes such as 4 Strings – Take Me Away (tyDi & Dennis Sheperd Remix), John O’Callaghan feat. Sarah Howells – Find Yourself (both from the new Trance Nation CD), Loving Arms – Karen Overton and Who Will Find Me – DJ Shah feat Adrina Thorpe; a selection of tunes which seemed to be a duplication of his previous performances I have recently witnessed. With one arm in the air, his face held a huge smile as it always does, showing his love for what he is known best for. The crowd enjoyed every minute and it was fantastic to see the main room going off to trance on a Friday night. It certainly has been too long!

Certainly a successful night of trance at HQ with plenty of people in attendance, its really quite amazing to see how the Ministry of Sound name can instantly pull a large crowd, which boasted a line-up predominantly of local home grown talent. This is evidence that Adelaide knows how to put on a cranking trance show with the numbers that have the potential to be there.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
