Friday night in Fremantle was on fire with the Purple Sneakers duo of PhDJ and Ben Lucid making the trip from their home town Sydney. The Purple Sneakers DJs have been touring around the country for their We Mix, You Dance tour and this weekend they didn’t disappoint.
The night kicked off with a vibrant dinner at a lively restaurant called Gypsy Tapas. The two DJs, along with earlier act DJ Zelimir joined a huge table of us to relish the banquet that Gypsy’s provided. With the Sangria coming quicker than we could drink it the boys were not holding back even though they were playing in a couple of hours. The festivities put the Purple Sneakers boys in a frame of mind that was going to produce a gig that the Metropolis crowd would be rocking too for hours on end.
DJ Zelimir set a fun loving theme, with punters jumping and bouncing with grins from ear to ear. This set the tone for Purple Sneakers to hit the stage with a bang. The crowd’s enthusiasm grew stronger and stronger as the duo got further and further into their set.
The Sydney DJs proved that indie music, no matter the genre or style, is as good a party starter as any. With amazing mixes and vibrant tunes, the boys showed the Fremantle crowd, that they’re at the top of their game and doing it better than any other indie DJs around.
Crowd favourites such as Use Somebody by Kings of Leon, together with Bonkers, hits from Friendly Fires, The Bloody Beetroots and a Classixx mix of Phoenix’s hit, Lisztomania, got the crowd moving and the finale of the set, setting the place mad with an absolute ripper of a remix of Banquet by Bloc Party.
Thanks needs to go out to the Purple Sneakers crew for acknowledging that we over in Perth really do enjoy the indie scene and would welcome the group back with open arms.
