Saturdays nights in Canberra once the weather warms up are often a lot of fun with many people out and about enjoying the balmy weather. Whilst it wasn’t the warmest of nights it didn’t prepare me for the night of disappointment ahead.

Rolling into Lot33 a bit after 11PM, I was shocked to be the first person inside….even more so given Ben Colin was playing a solid set which i was quite enjoying. Enjoying a drink and the music for a while, I saw a few people arrive, get their wrist band and then head off to drink elsewhere until later in the night. Given no one else was around decided to take my Melbourne mate around Kingston and show him what there was for a while.

Arriving back after 12AM to see Hubert playing away and another couple of punters in the place I was thinking the night was going to improve, especially when a hen’s night rocked up! Hubert was playing some awesome beats including Jeroenski – Renegade Master and a version of Gaelle – Give it back I’d never heard before. Taking over and joining in the fun was Cheese who brought out some early 2000’s songs which had some of the small crowd up and dancing.

The duo continued to play right through until a bit before 2AM when Dangerous Dan came on and began playing some tunes which i can’t quite place. Unfortunately it wasn’t what the crowd (all 40 of them if that) was into and he lost most of them pretty quickly from the floor – probably didn’t help that the bpm dropped noticeably in the changeover.

So what was the issue? Overall it looked like a reasonably slow night in most places – only saw one place with a line in Civic at all – so I would assume Uni exams took their toll. Either way it was highly disappointing for a night which I had high hopes for.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
