Put your hands together for one the most impressive boutique events to land at the Docklands. The organizers of Welcome Summer certainly did not let a Melbourne down pour dampens spirits at their debut event. That is perhaps because the gang behind Welcome Summer are veterans of the scene themselves and this shone through with their stylishly savvy, well thought out event. Having attended countless Sunday afternoon soirees over the years, it was obvious from the commencement of Welcome Summer that this event was a standout to be savored.
Welcome Summer was like a tantalizing banquet of offerings. Its location is home to the L’Oreal Fashion Festival, and Shed 14 was brimming with glowing ambiance and an electric vibe. The sophisticated and savoir faire crowd added to the tasty delights, as the champagne and cocktails flowed from the bar.
This boutique event was not overcrowded or overbearing. Welcome Summer concocted a perfect balance many other events completely throw off kilter. There was a bevy of lavishness on offer such as a gourmet bbq along the waters edge, a Belvedere VIP lounge, plenty of seating and even ample parking by the front entrance! It was a hassle free, intimate and utterly enjoyable event.
The most mouth watering part of Welcome Summer was of course the musical feast! An array of top notch local acts like Zoe Badwi, Chardy, James Belias, Mark John, Simon Digby and John Course. On the international front came the Brazilian DJ Meme. He had the crowd rocking to some hearty and much loved salsa and house beats.
Yet, the sweet icing on the cake was most definitely the long anticipated set from French master of house, Mr. Martin Solveig. Standing small in stature but huge in celebrity and talent, Martin Solveig is a beacon of dance and house music joy. He has the ability to get any crowd from any corner of the world rocking to his sensational beats. The massive projector screens adorning the walls were barraged with images from Solveigs iconic video clips like Boys & Girls and C’est La Vie. The energy in the room was electric and playful. There was plenty of room for punters to get down to Solveigs famous tunes like Jealousy and Everybody. And everybody was up and enjoying this exceptional set from a great pioneering DJ, who despite his world wide success is still very humble and gracious, posing for photos with fans.
With the great success of this inaugural Welcome Summer event, its no doubt the next installment will be just as satisfying and enjoyable.

After reading this review, people who did not attend should know that the highlight of the event was definately DJ Meme. The Brazilian lifted the roof off Shed 14! I had never heard of him prior to Welcome Summer, and to be honest, he left an impression o
