Technoboy. What more needs to be said about this veteran of the hardstyle scene? With over 500 releases, countless aliases and over ten years of being at the forefront of hardstyle, it was only fitting that he was awarded the massive party 10 Years of Technoboy in the Netherlands.
Brisbane had never been graced with the SAIFAM sounds until now. In an unprecedented move, ‘10 Years of Technoboy’ was set to be held in Brisbane’s very own Hi-Fi bar. Not only was this Technoboy’s Brisbane debut, the world renowned event was set to mark a change in Brisbane’s heart from the predominantly Dutch hardstyle that it had fallen in love with so far.
The event was set underway by local hard trance acts Kuruption and Little 1 showcasing their very first back to back set. It was clear that the two share a unique passion as the energy on stage was at an extremely high level. Kazuki and [clone] were the next local pair to amp up everyone for the first international of the night.
Tuneboy, and his unique lollypop headphone, opened with a style that had was unique to the ears of Brisbane, blasting out the old school SAIFAM tracks with an energy unlike anything ever seen. He flawless switched up between oldschool Italian and newer Dutch tracks like Frontliner – The First Cut and Noisecontrollers’ Thugz remix.
11pm saw Ruffian jump to the front of the stage to call everyone to the dance floor for the main act of the night, Technoboy. As soon as Star Creatorz – Killzone was mixed into Double Dutch Darkies, it was clear this was going to be a set like no other Brisbane had ever seen. Technoboy smashed out killer after killer with tracks like Channel KGB’s, Miami Belch, Put Some Grace, Rambo Is A Pussy, Next Dimensional World and his own brand new track Undersound. The entire time Technoboy was playing he had a massive smile on his face and a bottle of champagne in his hand, as aside from amazing Brisbane with its first taste of an all Italian event, he was celebrating his birthday. As midnight rolled around, Ruffian called a halt to the music and amped the crowd up to celebrate with Technoboy with the chorus of Happy Birthday rocking the Hi-Fi.
When the celebrations died down, Tuneboy joined Technoboy behind the decks to form the legendary T’n’T with a very special early hardstyle set. The set was a throwback to the early days of hardstyle with tracks like Builder – Skyscraper, Tatanka’s Floor Massacre and of course, perhaps the the most well known hardstyle track ever, Technoboy – War Machine. The set was a welcome trip down memory lane for those who were lucky enough (or old enough) to be around when these tracks were released, and was an important education for those who had entered the scene since then.
After T’n’T had finished with the early hardstyle, they took the stage as Hardstyle Masterz for a live set which featured tracks such as Just A Detail 2009, Loudness, Light Of The Dark, Superstar DJ and, of course, their new track Respect.
For the final set of the night 2Styliztik played a pounding yet melodic gabber set, consisting of favourites like Ophidian’s Butterfly VIP Remix and Evil Activities’ Nobody Said It Was Easy.
The event was extremely well run with no hiccups at all. The sound system had immensely improved from the last time I was at the Hi-Fi; it was loud with perfect clarity all night long. It was clear that a lot of time had been spent tuning it properly for the music to be played that night. Production was also outstanding, with plenty of lasers and strobes to provide the pounding visuals matching the style and tempo of the music.
The only downside to the night was the extremely disappointing turnout. This was even further compounded by the fact that it was Mystique Promotions’ last event, and they have provided Brisbane with some of the most memorable hard dance events ever seen. It was a shame that the 10 Years of Technoboy party, perhaps their greatest event yet, was so poorly attended. However, for the lucky few who were there, it was a historic event, and sure to be vividly remembered for the next ten years, until Technoboy comes again!
