Perth broken beat heads were in for a treat this boxing day, with two of Perth’s powerhouse acts, Shock1 and Pendulum absolutely tearing the roof off of the packed Metros nightclub.
As I entered the venue, I couldn’t help but notice that the place was packed out. Metros is one of those venues that when its packed and everyone is going off truly makes for one of those unforgettable nights that sticks in your head for a long time. Shock1 was there playing tunes with one purpose only, to get every body in that place going nuts and getting loose. And it was working. He played everything from electro breaks to just the right amount of dubstep, and of course his dnb hits such as Polygon, which when played kicked the place into the next gear.
And to think, this was the support act! As Shock1 got off the decks with the crowd giving him mad props, some ambient breaks played as the crowd started to buzz with anticipation, the boys were back in town to deliver a set that was a special Christmas treat for us Perthlings, with remixes, old tracks and new ones just for us! The set was peppered with all the old favourites such as Tarantulla, Masochist, Through the Loop, Bloodsugar (which caused bodies to seriously flail), Voodoo People, Hold Your Colour and Spiral. Most of these anthems were heavily remixed and mashed up, giving everyone the old stuff they love in a new and exciting format. The boys also kept it fresh with a few dubstep and deep house tunes, hell they even sampled Metallica’s Master of Puppets. But one of the highlights was definitely when they dropped a remix of the ABC News Theme. Seriously, I was standing on the top tier at Metros looking down at the sea of people and witnessed the place go off like a frog in a sock with noone believing what they were hearing!
Perth always appreciates when the boys come home and the fact that Pendulum were playing new exciting remixes and tracks from the forthcoming album just gave the set that little something extra special. Can’t wait for the new album to drop sometime in 2010, judging by what the boys churned out at Metros, we are all in for a treat.
