By far the most exciting line and longest in Northbridge on the Boxing Day of 2009, Rise was by far the place to be.
Brisbane based Tyson Illingworth aka DJ Tydi is without a doubt is Australia’s #1 Trance DJ and his popularity is very much growing everyday. After a short time in the line with Rise staff getting people in the doors quick and efficiently I was ready to see the likes of DJ Tydi featuring Audrey Gallagher.
DJ Tydi began with an explosive energetic ten minute opening in front of an almost full capacity club before emerging the crowd into pure trance. Tydi, who very much follows the form of Armin Van Burren with his smiles and uplifting mood, set the tone early. When Audrey Gallagher stepped up to an even higher elevated platform that stood above Tydi the crowd showed there respect with a chant “Audrey” Her vocals were second to none, a very complex but captivating strong voice. Possibly the Northern Irish accent is the reason for her touching, pure bliss that’s suited to Trance. Alongside Tydi they played their current hit You Walk Away which was by far was the crowd’s favourite and it showed. It’s no wonder Armin Van Burren decided to put this song on his weekly Podcast.
Tydi showed an incredible amount of skill at a level that surpasses many DJ’s at his age. His unpredictable choice of composition in his music is what keeps everyone on the edge and wanting more. Tydi together with Audrey Gallagher is a duo that, I for one hope keeps producing more.
This Rise event will be one I will remember and I am proud to now call myself a Tydi fan. The challenge overcomes by avoiding the somewhat predictable Trance is something i’ve never seen before. You never knew what was coming up and where he was going to take the set. A big thank you to the Rise staff who again put on another huge night with smiles around and provided amazing friendly service. The audio and video team really set the bar high for what Perth needed on a rather dull Boxing Day at every other club.
