It’s a very hard thing to rise early after a late one but even harder when the late one was New Years Eve and then you have to drag your sorry ass down to the Sydney Aquarium for the “Come Play” New Year’s Day cruise. So it was comforting to see there were others equally enthusiastic queuing to get onto the 2 story boat, promising to host the best New Years Day party.

Cursing under my breath, why I put my name down for this when my warm bed would have sufficed, we made our way on deck and before too long the party was in full swing. The first Play off between acts commenced with Imperial vs. Just Corz and before too long the upper deck had its own with Cantosis vs. Atlas. Both acts played to the audience, immersing themselves into medleys of free flowing love, space and electronica.

Into full swing the audience lapped it up, shuffling, hooting and spreading the love as inhibitions were left on the port. A great harbour, a strong sea breeze and free flowing drinks was the perfect accompaniment to the electronica bubbles as DJ Spinout hit out with his set, with a gargantuan mix ensemble. Not disappointing, DJ Arctic displayed some hard trance to numbers to counteract Spinouts’ onslaught with Dance with the Devil and This Time.

DJ Matrix at this time had his duel with Tahndee, and ever the show man he was in his element showing off some flash moves. This did not detract from DJ Tahndee, a petite blonde who was not going to let a few outrageous moves upstage her hard dance ensemble.

The duels continued amongst DJs that were all civil and done with the sole intention of spreading the love. No animosity as the first day of the year commenced with a lively cheer and as the first drop off hit The Opera House at 3pm, Dj Yoshi’s Since you been Gone mix transcended over the waves following hot on the heels of Nas quick mix. Upper deck’s Dj Suae’s Ready or not and Cold as Ice kept the liveliness going.

To finish the afternoon off Nik Import fired off Constellation on the upper deck to rival downstairs face off between Aken and Notley. It was the perfect come down party that did quite the opposite, prepping all into shaking their thing.
