It was a wild night with Australian expat Sam Sparro at Roxanne Parlour on Saturday January 9th.

The night kicked off with supporting DJs Megaphone, M.A.F.I.A., HANS DC and OOH-EE, who warmed up the eagerly awaiting Sam Sparro fans and provided a very mixed selection of dance music ranging from RNB/Hip Hop to Commercial house and indie/electro.

After hours of waiting, Sam Sparro finally took to the stage at 1:00am looking like a plastic ken doll, sporting a plastic stick-on hair piece, over-sized white torn singlet and massive black round sunnies. He started off with Pocket and certainly worked the crowd (of which consisted mostly of men) into a frenzy giving an energetic and intimate performance, jumping around on stage and mounting the podium while his fans touched and groped him in places I’d rather not mention. Sparro loved the attention and was quite flattered by this, yelling out “Somebody just touched my junk!”

The rest of the night continued with a DJ set while Sparro provided an amazing range of background vocals as well as altered deep vocals accompanying popular club hits including Nomad’s I wanna give you (devotion), I’ll Get YouClassixx, I Think I Like ItFake Blood, AnimalMiike Snow and A-track’s remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs Heads Will Roll. He even dedicated a song to hosting venue Roxanne (parlour) you don’t have to put on a red light! Sparro was very interactive with his audience, jumping down off the stage and dancing with the crowd of fans.

After an hour of a DJ set he finally played another original track 21st Century Life followed by a great remix of AnywayArmand Van Helden and The Presets My People and repeatedly waived his fingers around at the audience like spirit fingers.

He ended his set with Maximus’ his latest dance collaboration with Bang Gang’s Beni followed by the song everyone was waiting for Black & Gold.

Overall a night with Sam Sparro was a fun and entertaining time even if it was a bit disappointing for the fans expecting to hear more songs from his album. Regardless, the gig showcased Sparro’s dance influences, a result of collaborations with the likes of Basement Jaxx and Beni – perhaps a indication of what to expect on his next album.
