Trance brand NEXUS is known for regularly putting on banging trance events at various unique venues! Besides their own impressive local talent, the Nexus team have in the past brought us Mike Nichol, Lumeria, and Ronski Speed.

This night the show featured both halves of the banging duo Tenishia, all the way from Malta, and Sydney’s Rossco.
The UK’s Ben Gold was originally to have been headlining the night on his debut tour of Australia, but due to unfortunate visa/passport issues that could not be resolved, his tour had to be cancelled. Tenishia, in town for Made In Malta the night before, and for Dash Berlin next weekend, kindly stepped in to ensure the party went ahead.

Hosted by Miss Libertines, a cozy little venue with a killer sound system and ever so affordable $5 agwa shots (enthusiastically thrown back by attendees), the DJ booth was thoroughly pimped out with two full colour spectrum lasers, double visual screens, camo army netting decorations, and a very enthusiastic smoke machine. The smoke machine was one of the only complaints I have about the night, it was just too smoky half the time, and even smoke machine smoke tastes bad! The night’s crowd, perhaps slightly more sparse than might have been expected had Ben’s tour gone ahead, partied on in fine flamboyant form.

Nexus’ locals Jova and James Brook opened the night strongly, then at midnight Roscco got the crowd moving with a series of beautiful uplifting hits, such as Stoneface & Terminal’s Oneiric. The room was hot and stuffy with moving bodies by the time he closed with George Acosta’s Falling Backwards.

Next, Tenishia went up on decks together, with an hard and bassy opening number, complete with epic crashes of sound and voice overlays. Their set continued to gain momentum, with fast techy numbers, including Wippenberg’s Pong. The two hour set was captivating, with many clever transitions; as both DJ’s took turns choosing and belting out wonderfully progressive tunes. They had the main room quite full of bodies bumping in the smokey air. Towards 3:30am, their set finished up with a few carefully chosen uplifting songs. A versus set between Jed and Brendan B brought the night to a banging end.

A slightly quieter than average night, but perhaps more fun for the close friendly crowd and comfortable venue, everyone had a good time enjoying the best in Melbourne’s trance music.
