So it’s that time of year again. For the 10th year in a row, the executioner, Ram Records label boss and the number on DnB DJ in the world, Andy C, has made his way to out shores for his annual Janurary pilgramage, and this time, the added bonus of the party being on a boat made for a special affair.
As the boat pulled away from the dock, suprise dubstep guest Silkie took the decks and gave us two hours of dubstep madness. The main deck looked pretty empty at this time though, and I was concerned about how many people actually made it onto the boat, it was less than a third full… but was releaved when I ventured outside to find the top deck of the boat rammed. I actually gave up on trying to get upstairs there were that many people up there.
Intercepta was up next on the main deck, and bought the party vibe up a notch. Smooth laid back DnB, a great warm up for Andy C I thought. The hour he played flew past very quickly, with a fitting scene as a water taxi arriving to drop off Andy and GQ, just as intercepta dropped Calibre’s Mr Majestic blaring through the sound system, which I might add was impressive and clear for a party on a boat.
After a brief introduction from GQ, where he gave us his reservations about playing on a boat, Andy kicked things off in a way only he knows how… Dirtyphonics Teleportation, rewound, then double dropped with Subfocus Timewarp VIP, brilliant.
I’m not sure if it was the boat, or the people jumping so hard, but Andy did not seem to be as on point as he usually is. I heard a few mistakes from him, and I have never heard him miss a double drop or trainwreck a mix before, ever. That said, he pulled out what was an amazing set, spanning the entire spectrum of DnB, from the girly and soulful in love by Jenna G to dancefloor stompers like DJ Hazzards Mr Happy and Machette, and classics like Total Science Squash and Omni Trios Renegade Snares.
After two hours af dancefloor mayhem, Andy finished up, and Linken and Vertigo took controls, just as the boat came to dock. Unfortunately, I had to be on the last train home so couldn’t stick around to hear the rest of their set, but as I was getting off the boat I looked back and everyone was still jumping.
The party had a wicked vibe. As mentioned earlier, Andy comes down every year, and its always something special, though the last few years I didn’t really get into it, but this party will be one to remember for a while. It reminded me of the old Lockdown parties, where everyone was just there for a good time and to party on, and thats exactly what went down on Sunday night.
