As a frequent raver in Adelaide (where venues are extremely limited), it was hard to get excited about going to “Once Upon A Time 2” at the Lion Arts Theatre on North Terrace. On previous occasions it had been too crowed, water was overpriced (more than usual) and not only do you have to go outside to go to the toilet, but they have those freaky blue lights in them.

Naturally, I was cautions. But RR Fierce was playing, along with Ajax vs Krash in the NRG room and I decided that they were not to be missed. Arriving at about 11.30 there was a substantial line-up (rare in Adelaide) and due to a stabbing the night before security was heavy. But I was not to be deterred.

Did I forget to mention that it was hot inside? Well it was! I think the air-conditioning was broken for the first half of the night. When you entered the venue you had to walk through the D’n’B room to get to the second room. The Drum and Bass crew were pretty subdued, as expected for that time of the night, but the NRG room was going off as soon as I arrived. It was practically filled and nearly everyone was dancing to Odyssey and Renegade’s set (which was nearly as good as the one they played the week before at Hard Candy in Melbourne).

Later I did a quick run through the D’n’B room and had just enough time to see that everyone was finally dancing appreciating the superior skills of local superstar Noddy. I then dashed back into the other room where my friends had discovered an airconditoning vent on the balcony which also provided a great view down onto the Djs. I got back just in time to see Ajax and Krash take over on the decks. Now did these two rock or what? Ajax had also mysteriously acquired a “Hoover” t-shirt (see “Hoover crew featuring Odyssey and Renegade”) which I must say suited him quite well!

And then RR Fierce. What can I say except I haven’t danced so hard for months. Everyone was going off and then night finished way to early for my liking (5am). Devious was desperate to “play one more” but I heard the owner telling him that he’d unplug his power if he did (what a spoilsport).

So it was on to recovery, where Ajax was once again going to take the stage – but something happened to him – “unforeseen circumstances” the sign said, so we had to settle for RR Fierce!
