Trance fans lined up outside Gabrielle’s Room at HQ Complex, eager to kick off their Easter celebrations. The doors opened just after midnight, welcoming Trancefusion, Cybergroove and HQ Complex’s latest instalment, Freefall, with David Forbes and Claudia Cazacu headlining, plus local Adelaide trance favourites.

New up and coming Adelaide trance DJs Chase and Kase kicked off proceedings in the main room of Gabrielle’s, playing to an already packed dancefloor. The night was in full swing right from the word go. Gabs view offered a smaller and intimate room with In-Situ in control, following on with well-known Adelaide trance favourite Andrew Howlett (The Dancefloor), Steve R (Trancefusion), Miss Julez (Trancefusion) and Cetra (TranceSA). The newly refurbished Gab’s roof top garden balcony offered a chillout area with lounges adorning the perimeters, which remained busy all night.

As the main dancefloor heaved with eager trance fans it wasn’t long before David Forbes was ready to start his set. There was an electric vibe in the air as he made his way. 15 years in the business has shown this man certainly has a love for this genre, showing his energetic and enthusiastic stage presence as he belted out his first tune with MC Jules on the mic. Dropping a steady stream of well known trance favourites – 6am by Cressida, Rank 1’s LED There Be Light, Wippenberg’s Chakalaka _ – Gabs room was well pumping.

Showing his techier side with Sander Van Doorn’s Riff (a tune everyone responds well to), then moving into vocal progressive sounds with John O’Callaghan’s Find Yourself and Above and Beyond’s On a Good Day saw the packed crowd singing along. Rounding off with a housey version of Florence and the Machine’s You’ve Got the Love and finishing with Andy Moor & Ashley Wallbridge’s Faces, David Forbes absolutely tore the roof off Gabrielle’s room delivering a flawless, energised set.

The stunning Claudia Cazacu, dressed in a figure hugging white dress, stilettos with long platinum blond hair swept back in a pony-tail, certainly takes your breath away. Opening her set to a very eager crowd, with cameras flashing this way and that, Claudia proceeded to show her fans that she’s just not a pretty face, delivering harder techier sound with an underground feel. Known for her massive tune Free Fallin featuring Audrey Gallagher, she dropped the tune midway through her set to a packed room who sung along, me included. These are the moments that make nights like this one to remember. As the night crept on, the dancefloor slightly thinned out, but the atmosphere did not cease.

Three hours of international flavour fed the hungry crowd with many deciding to stay on to watch Trancefusion’s own Frost and Adelaide trance legend Solace hit it back-to-back in the main room. Easter is always a great opportunity for promoters to bring out sensational international acts, and this night was no exception.
