The party kicked off at 4pm with some chunky beats to tantalise the senses. The beer was flowing cheap at $2 a schooner and it was very well appreciated by the thirsty masses. There was a drastically long wait for the two for one priced cocktails, but then again once received those tasty little beverages were just too fine to put down. To top it off the vibe of this place was friendly as can be, not an ounce of attitude in the whole place, which is always a truly valued aspect of any great night out.
An airbrush mural was being created throughout the night by Wayde Szumyn, which depicted a twisted landscape of mountains that looked like speakers. It was great to keep taking a glace over at it during the night to see it progress.
Overall the music on the night really displayed a vast array of everything with a break-beatish pulse. The tunes out of the box were a great mix of old and new and the sounds took everyone on a voyage through the funky, jazzy side of breaks right up to the intense drum n bass that capped off the night.
It did take the dance floor a while to get moving but it really started to come to life once dBChills took to the decks.
TwoUp knew exactly what everyone wanted as he played his opening set. He created a chunky funky atmosphere that allowed people to nod there heads along to the beats whilst everyone nocked back a few drinkies before getting into the groove. Sharif Galal then followed up and picked out some of the best old breaks tunes from the past and present, which inspired a quite a few people to test out the floor.
Mark Dynamix was very welcomed at Fourplay by the masses. Not often playing a break-beat set himself it was an interesting affair that we will all remember. Starting off with a nice funkified mellow array of tunes Mark kept everyone grooving away with smiles plastered on their dials. He finished off by building up to a very charged and exciting tone touching on the electrified side of breaks, which prepped everyone for the crazy drum & bass set by A.L.F.
During Mark Dynamixs set the floor was cleared for an awesome display of Bboys and a Bgirl. Known as the Nervous Breakdown Crew these punters ripped the place apart leaving the crowd gobsmaked. At one stage the moves got so funky that the disco ball was almost sent flying off the ceiling from a wild kick manoeuvre.
Fourplay is definitely a quality night to attend for an enjoyable Saturday afternoon and night. It encompasses everything to do with breaks so if youre a break beat fanatic and you have yet been to check out Fourplay, you are doing yourself a great injustice. I recommend you bop along to the next one for sure.
