Famous international music festival Creamfields graced our shores this week for its inaugural Australian debut. Adelaide was lucky enough to have three of its major trance acts Filo and Peri, Ferry Corsten and Marco V, brought over by Creamfields and HQ Complex mid tour, for what was to be one night of epic proportions.

With the rain falling outside I was welcomed into a warm main room with Solace presenting the opening set. Easing into the night at a slower and softer BPM with the Alex M.O.R.P.H remix of FaithlessSun to Me and finishing with the classic Touch Me by Rui da Silva. Frost followed on continuing with the vocal trance, selecting to play Velvetine feat Aruna’s Wherever You Are for his opening tune. As the crowd filled the room it wasn’t long before the first international act of the night was to commence.

In a blink of an eye the main room was full, but not too packed and people could still freely move around without being pushed. There was mixture of young and old school fans in attendance, which gave the crowd a nice balance. New Yorkers Filo and Peri (aka Dominic Filopei and Bo Pericic ), started their two-hour set with a welcoming roar from the crowd. Delivering a very theatrical and energised performance, this duo belted out popular tunes including LangeOut of the Sky, WippenbergPong, Cosmic GateBody of Conflict, a remix of Tim DeluxeIt Just Won’t Do, Darren Tate vs Jono GrantYou are My Light and their own massive tune The Anthem, which had everyone in attendance singing along. I thoroughly enjoyed their entire set and was pleased to have seen both Filo and Peri in attendance tonight.

Heading into Soho to check out the supporting acts, I found an empty room, as most preferred to be in the main room. The room was closed early to the dismay of the DJs that were waiting to play.

The party vibe in the air was intense as people crammed onto the dancefloor to get closer to Ferry. I decided to stand in the middle of the top level of the main room to witness the legendary Dutchman start his set. Looking down and across at the lower levels that give off an amphitheatre-like effect, all hands were in the air and all eyes were on Ferry as MC Jules announced the star. Beginning with uplifting euphoric tunes the journey was just about to begin. Lasers fanned the large room and the numerous screens on the stage displayed pictures of Ferry which was courtesy of his own VJ. Playing tunes from his new complication Once Upon a Night included Yuri KaneRight Back and Amurai feat. Melissa LorettaUnconditional Love, featuring lyrics on the large screens. Also on the screens the words ‘Adelaide’, I Love You’ and ‘You are Incredible’ were periodically displayed, which were appreciated by the adoring crowd.

There are so many great tunes to Ferry’s name and he played them all. Fire, Beautiful and Made of Love featured the video clip. One of the high points to the night and what brought me weak to my knees, was when he dropped the remix of Coldplay’s The Scientist. It was extraordinary to see the crowd swaying with arms in the air as if they were one. Mobile phones were held high to capture every second of it. Everyone loved it.

However the best was yet to come. The last three quarters of his set was dedicated to more of his own massive tunes. Out of the Blue, Radio Crash – with its recognisable “boom boom” – and last but certainly not least Rock Your Body Rock, which absolutely tore the roof off the main room and had the frenzied crowd going ballistic. It was unbelievable!

Dutchman Marco V followed next with a progressive vocal track. After four hours of international entertainment, most of the crowd left the main room, with a few remaining. Not playing as hard as what I expected I still enjoyed his tunes. He dropped a breaks track, which was unusual, but at that time of the night I’m sure you could get away with being a bit different. There were a few technical difficulties with the sound cutting out a few times. Ronski Speed feat. Emma HewittLasting Light was played, continuing on with the vocal trance feel of the night. For some reason Marco’s set was cut short by an hour and Solace continued on, bringing the night to a close.

HQ’s main room has been the home of many huge events, with this one making it into the record book as one of the best. Dedicated trance fans responded with the utmost appreciation and gratitude and it was fantastic to see such a positive and large turnout. I wouldn’t expect anything less from three of trance’s finest.

Great review! Ferry playing The Scientist was an amazing moment. As was him ending on RYBR, what a way to top off an amazing set.

Niiiiiice review Neetz. Almost flew to Adelaide to get another dose of Ferry, and having read that, seems like I made the wrong decision. He never disappoints!
