Old Skool.

It’s a term coined by many, yet rarely has it held as much merit as it did on the first Saturday night of May at Miss Libertine. The fourth installment of the infamous Arm in Arm nights was always set to be a grand affair. With excitement building for weeks on end, the punters, organisers and DJs alike were super pumped to bring the old skool back. With the vibe on the front porch of Miss Libertine’s so welcoming, happy and downright electric, it was hard not to smile and feel elated as the classic techno house and trance tunes emanated from the clubs speakers. With awe-inspiring Melbourne DJ’s on high rotation in the front room, it was the back room that stole much of the attention. It was all starting with DJ Scorch heating up the decks for the initial set.

With smiley faces and hearts suspended from the ceiling in front of the decks, the vodka lemonades were coming thick and fast as the well versed crowd shuffled, shoulder shook and fancy footed their way through stellar tracks from DJ Nimmo. The applause and cheering continued as the man of the night, DJ Adrian Van Raay began to pump out the uplifting trance tracks like the pro he is on three decks. To my own elation, Van Raay dropped Underworld’s Born Slippy; an extravagant full version which was a tremendous pleasure not often enjoyed enough in the clubs of today. Seth Taylor followed up Van Raay’s awesome set with some cracking tracks of his own, as the ‘Arm in Arm’ attendees danced with blissful abandon to the spine tingling array of melodies on offer.

These classic old skool tunes complimented to perfection the crowd’s own carefree rocking out attitude – everyone was there to have fun and reminisce about a time when the music was everything and the club was a place to catch up with buddies that shared the same passion. There were many ‘old skool’ reunions, bumping into old faces and making friends with new ones. It was a fantastic night, and with event number five already in the works, it’s guaranteed to be a night not to be missed!
