Was it the cold weather? The lack of energy from the long weekend antics prior? Or the knowledge that Creamfields was on the coming Sunday? I have no idea, but what ever it was that kept the crowds away from LimeLite at Fremantle`s Metropolis Nightclub remains a mystery to me. It certainly wasn’t DJ Falcon’s entertainment quality or popularity status!
DJ Falcon`s collaboration with Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter So Much Love To Give is how most people will remember this eccentric French chap. It was a band titled Together , where they released So Much Love to Give and another self titled single Together on their own label Roulé that really thrust this fine artist out there. It was also at one stage in DJ Falcon`s career when he played an early version of Eric Prydz`s Call on Me, which would lead the release to be credited as work by the once duo’d Daft Crew.
A measly hundred people – give or take – witnessed DJ Falcon’s performance. He started off with a repertoire of French house French electro which did not seem to make much of a dent to the already seemingly uninterested audience. It was a rendition of J-Kwon’s 2004 Hit Tipsy that got the ball moving. Pumping the slightly more r`n`b tipped tunes – a style quite uncommon for DJ Falcon – kept the crowds keen. Falcon sneaked in a few of his Euro tracks here and there, hoping not to lose the interest he had gained from the audience, and managed to do this really well.
Due to the small crowd you would be fooled to think that DJ Falcon is a new and upcoming DJ still creating a following, though Stephen Queme is actually a veteran in the game and kind of a big deal! For me, a trip to Metro`s in Fremantle is usually accompanied with large crowds and a night that ends when the venue closes. This was not the way this time! Perhaps Limelite were too busy focusing all their energy on other projects or simply that Creamfields had killed it for the locals, but with a small crowd for DJ Falcon to interact with, I do not think that this event was a success at all – certainly something that isn’t reflective of the man’s talent!
