The cacophonous vibrancy of reality can be an exceptionally challenging thing for certain people to grasp. Swinging from tree to tree, sadly misguided by a wicked and ignorant set of weak exterior forces, they lack any integral connection to authentic inner self. Hours before mirrors seem only to exacerbate their anxiety and supposed ‘need’ to receive perpetual validation by others – all that at a cost!

Lovers of heavy metal music might enjoy Space Tribe – assuming they have the smarts to be open. It is the lovers of the psychedelic inlook who seek nourishment that can find it with Space Tribe; recognizing the music as well as the gentle power of the live performance – so strong with the psychedelic outfit – as an essential platform upon which to reign truly free with their emotions.

Player One (Dooflex Records) kicked off the evening in The Main Room, setting the tone with tremendous excitement and sophistication. Fat psy flowed thick and strong from the Funktion One system. He slapped hand on top of hand until we had a mountain of sound, stacked high like a column of pancakes. Then Ozzy (Tribeadelic Records) stepped up and deep-throated the lot of it. My affection for Ozzy The Protagonist is well documented. Tonight I felt we witnessed the birth of a new-level within “Ozzy the DJ”. Just the most extreme joy and vitality came ripping from those speakers. And I am certainly looking forward to more of that!

Mr Peculiar (Magnetic Pulse Records) put down a live set that took the party up a notch. Glowing from the brilliance of the previous sets, he steered the snakehead onwards with deft, punching originality. His authority with the stylistic kitbag of psy is impressively relaxed and assured. An artist like this takes no prisoners – for we are not at war! Beautiful, lyrical and luscious tunes swept in to a vortex of highly refined and specifically articulated aural colourscapes. I certainly had a dance off!

And then it was Jigsaw (Sundance Records) who brought the evening to a sweet conclusion with a live set for the faithful that remained. Starting off with a kind of psychedelic Dub, he cruised the room nicely with his beats. People could come back down to earth in style.

But it was Ollie Wisdom as Space Tribe that came out as the highlight of the night. He has been at the forefront of psychedelic since the 1980s and on this night, his live mixing was set down beneath a sparkling vocal performance. He moved comfortably within a very satisfying spectrum, with aspects of his sound moving from popping riffs to grilled cheese.

Psychedelic trance gigs like this restore my faith in humanity. At times, the decisions people make about themselves and other people simply baffle me. Whilst I do not presume to ‘know’ any of the answers, I can certainly make a convincing case – psychedelic vision is, for those fortunate to look directly, patient and kind, as much as it is banging!
