The 14th of May saw Clive Henry grace Geisha – arguably Perth’s most popular house venue. It was one cold evening and anyone foolish enough to forget their jacket (such as myself) found themselves forced to dance to keep the cold away.
Aarin F was warming the room when I eventually found my way to Geisha. Playing a nice set of tech goodness, Aarin did a good job of warming up the floor. A good crowd had turned out at Geisha with everyone preparing themselves at the bar for Clive’s set
Strangely, the crowd had thinned out considerably by 2am when Clive finally got onto the decks. His set was solid and flowed well, however he didn’t really kick it up much from where Aarin left off. His sound seemed more suited to an Ibiza beach party then a 2am set on an exceptionally cold May night in Perth. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it thoroughly, along with the rest of the crowd who gave up their fair share of woot’s during his set. Speaking to Clive after, he was quite pleased with his set and really appreciated the crowds reaction. Vocal crowds, it seems, are a rarity on his travels.
James Francis aka Babs closed up the evening with a more driving tech sound. By now, the club had cleared out with a small following staying to close. By now Geisha felt like the air conditioning had been turned on. I have never been so cold in a fully enclosed club.
Democracry delivered another solid night, however I think it could have been better with an earlier set time for Clive. If not because Clive’s sound was more suited to an early set, but also because staying up past 2am on a Friday evening can be a bit of a chore for some punters after a long week at work.
