The second edition of Airport. Did it live up to the hype of it’s maiden flight? In some aspects it outclassed the first outing but the journey that Airport took us on this time was really quite lackluster. No-one really stood out from the crowd of the B class DJs that played at this edition of Airport.
I arrived at the venue a little after 11, Sied hadn’t started his set as stated in the set times, however I arrived when Trent was finishing his set with a new remix of Cygnus X – The Orange Theme. Sied van Riel’s set was quite enjoyable infused with some techy goodness. But the set didn’t really stand out to me compared to the first edition of Airport. A few of the tracks that were played and displayed some sort of emotion were Sied van Riel Radiator, Marcel Woods Inside of Me 2010 Remix, Mat Zo 24hrs with Cosmic Gate on the remix and a remix of Hartseer from Bart Claessen.
Simon Patterson was a disappointment: there was no journey or progression in his set, just a never changing drone of pure noise. However, within his monotonous set of uplifting trance, two tracks especially stood out. One being Taxi and he finished off the night, with Bulldozer. These two tracks were probably the only highlights to his set.
In spite of the half decent trance being played, the overall set up was top notch! The sound quality was superb, although it did get way too loud throughout the night – my ears are still ringing from Simon’s set. It didn’t live up to the maiden flight as the original gig had better DJs with the likes of Robbie Nelson, Steve Helstrip and Greg Downey. However, there was no line up and no hassle getting into the Gaelic Club. The renovations to the club are effective, as after tonight, it captured the trance atmosphere and will have the ability to provide a brilliant trance venue for future events.
