A small note to the Delphic guys (cause of course they’ll be reading this!) – Can you come back and do a show with the ASO? It would be perfection!

I’ve been listening to Acolyte record of Manchester lads’ Delphic for a little over two months now, so I was interested to see if they could deliver the goods live. Opening the set with Clarion Call, we were off to a good start, and I was pleasantly surprised as they headed into the next tracks. Now admittedly, I attend more gigs of the electronic genre than anything else, so I’m not sure if this is common place (forgive my ignorance if so), but I loved that the guys played the first half of the set like a continuous DJ mix – each track flowing into the next with a continual beat. It was a really interesting touch and it seemed to cement the idea that the band is equal parts electronica and equal parts indie. They certainly do both parts well. Bands who fall into this crossover category often run the risk of watering down both genres, so *snaps to Delphic for nailing both sides of it.

Despite being a Monday night in little ol’ Adelaide, the boys put on an energetic show throughout Doubt, Red Lights, and Counterpart, and came back with the beautiful piano loops of Remain for their first encore track. For their final song of the night, the guys hit us with the dance floor friendly title track Acolyte: the perfect ending to a great set. I found their performance and tracks to be incredibly interesting, intelligent and considered, and it’s really pleasing to discover this about a band I’d not heard of up until a few months ago. An absolutely smashing album enhanced by a great live performance.
