It was just like any other Friday night really…finish work, meet friend for dinner, drink a bottle of wine then hit the town for a night of dancing. On tonight’s menu was the Triple J Magazine Party at of all places World Bar – somehow I find myself there every weekend without fail. I turned up at World Bar around 8.15pm to find two massive lines heading towards opposite ends of Bayswater Rd…I guess this is what happens when you publicly announce an awesome party like this free. I weaselled my way in with my best friend who the door crew had mistaken for a photographer, so far so good. About 5 meters in and already I felt like sardines in a tin that weren’t being taken out for a sandwich anytime soon. It was crammed but the vibe was pretty cool and Dapple Cities DJs were killing it in the front room with their unique taste in music.

It was definitely time for a drink and everyone knows a visit to World Bar is not complete without downing a few teapots. After conquering yet another line, with teapot finally in hand, it was time to party. Upstairs, Gatsby was on first and definitely getting things going with a bit of hip-hop and funk. It was still crazy busy and didn’t seem like it was letting up anytime soon. I nearly fell off the balcony when I heard Gatsby busting out a few Michael Jackson classics. The music was so unexpected and yet so welcome.

Back downstairs out in the rear room the floor was literally jumping and people were clearly setting themselves up for a long one. Turns out we had just managed to catch the end of Tom Ballard vs Dom Alessio, who were surprisingly awesome. We hung around out back for a while to hear the Juggers (unreal!) plough out their trademark synth-electro business and throwing in their latest track Vital Signs much to the crowd’s approval. The Flight Facilities boys, who in my mind were one of the highlights of the night, managed to mix in Jay Z ft. Alicia Keys’ New York, turning the room into a karaoke sing-a-long with people running out of everywhere to catch a closer piece of the action.

Come 11pm I was getting ants in my pants and relocated my group of friends upstairs. The music as we started walking into the room was nothing short of amazing and just what I needed at that point in the night. Salon DJs, who to be completely honest I had never heard of before, definitely stand out as the absolute, number one, ultimate performance of the night. My friends were willing to back me up on this one because they were seriously blowing the roof off World Bar. They rocked out everything from Listomania by Phoenix to old school N-ight At The Roxbury_ tunes. One of the biggest surprises was probably hearing Ace of Base alongside ABC by Michael Jackson – but hey it worked and we were loving it.

The rest of the night is a bit of a blur with bits and pieces still flashing back to me. The tunes were unreal with a real eclectic mix of music being thrown around by all DJs. One minute we were listening to Heads Will Roll by the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs and the next thing I know there was a mini mosh going on to Lump by the Presidents of the United States of America. I also remember having a conversation with a guy who completely had me fooled thinking he was the lead singer of Little Red. Who could blame me though since Triple J Mag had World Bar completely decked out with amazing Aussie artists/DJs. I should quickly mention Cloud Control and Myth n Tropics who also rocked it pretty hard. The party was a huge success to re-launch Triple J Mag and I’m sure all the other punters can vouch for that.
