Alhambra Lounge is a well appointed venue, located in the midst of all The Valley has to offer. As I enter the club and descend the stairs I come to a large space with private rooms to the right and a large seating area with couches to the left. The design is famed for the style from the 1300’s castle Alhambra in Spain. There are ornate arches and plenty of private rooms draped with sheer fabric that suggests concealment and privacy, while still providing a view of your surroundings to the bar and dancefloor. Going to the bar for a cocktail with no list on offer made it difficult – though the bartenders were happy to make anything on request. Still, I would like to have had some signature drinks and a wine list to choose from.
Reaching the dancefloor and looking up at the decks, there was DJ Freestyle playing disco music with his special lounge feel. The music progressed to funk with his scratching skills on show. It was perfect and I was left impressed. Aydos and Darren Skaar come on, the DJ/trumpeter duo well known to the venue. These guys really have it down: the trumpet fitted with the beats flawlessly. Their musical chemistry was obvious. The crowd was surrounding the stage and people were continuing to flow through the door to join them. There is a great vibe to the place and I was happy to stay here for the evening. With such stunning surroundings, there are plenty of unique artists also worth checking out here too. Indeed, Alhambra could be Brisbane’s best boutique club.
