Distinguished french DJ/Producer and head of label Tigersushi Joakim plays a set of high grade house music that has a lasting effect on the weekend. The night is off to a good start with Barsoma filling out nicely in the early hours. It’s perfect weather to stay outside, which is where plenty of folk are enjoying the music on the up to standard system. Barsoma is thriving, having put on a fine selection of artists for the evening where they stand out, time and time again.

Brisbane band The Moses Gunn Collective are on the bill, entertaining the masses for the evening who receive many a captivated stare from the crowd. The club continues to fill at a steady pace and the tone of the place is buzzing. As the night progresses, Moon Jog come on stage – a local band who appear to be quite new. I would like to say that this is a band worth seeing again. The three piece assembly provide a polished performance: their songs are catchy and on the heavier side with Clay giving us a taste of his obvious talent on the synth, while Steve and Rhett match his talent in their field. The crowd interaction is remarkable with Rhett getting off stage at one point to play on the dancefloor. They are getting people moving wherever in the club they are with their downright arresting behavior.

Following them is Scott Walker, and from the instant he starts to play, the dance floor fills. It is a relatively smooth transition from band to DJ considering the focus switches from one end of the club with live powerpop on stage to the other end with electro house on the decks. It is almost as if the sun has just set and the night has begun. There are some serious disco antics as the crowd cut loose. I take a walk through the busy club and can hear Joakim’s name floating through the conversations around me. It is apparent the fan’s have been waiting for this. After getting the crowd well and truly ready, Joakim enter’s the DJ booth and the fan’s are entranced. With his own blend of nu disco/house tracks he keeps the element of the convivial atmosphere and is clearly enjoying himself as much as the people. This was a great lineup leading to a huge night at Barsoma: a definite success.
