Mi Casa is the result of a group of like-minded individuals who have come together to throw a monthly house party for your pleasure. This was their second monthly bash in the front room at Revolver, so it was only appropriate that they should throw a ‘house-warming’ to properly settle in.

Heading to Revs a bit early, we were informed that progressive outfit Elf Transporter was playing in the front room til one-am, so we decided to chill in the main room, soaking up the deep house vibes provided by the Wax crew. This provided a nice ease-in to the more upfront tech-house vibe we were about to experience. Starting the party at one-am turned out to be quite fortunate because, as always, it takes some time to get Revs packed. So surely enough, when Mi Casa kicked off, people were starting to spill into the club.

Entering the front room, we were greeted by people lazing about on couches, mismatching lamps, and a television set, sitting askew on the main stage. This all helped give the room that random house party atmosphere. Starting off the proceedings was Virginia Le versus Matt Kovic, dropping funky, yet solid tech-house beats.

NoiDoi’s bass-heavy Jamiroquai-sampling Deeper Underground got the punters on the dancefloor (that’s on the Love Letters from Oslo label, for all you train spotters out there!). Over the next hour, their versus set continued to deliver more funky tech-house favourites. Personal highlight was late in their set, when they played Ryan Crosson’s Don’t Look Further, available on Spectral Sound.

Going out into the back room for a breather, Andee Frost was at the DJ booth, dropping old school, funky house beats. Andee really puts his own quirky personality into the mix, and the crowd was reacting accordingly. People were skanking about the dancefloor with big grins on their faces. The cruisy vibe out in the main room recharged my batteries, and gave me more energy for the more full-on techno assault which the night was evolving into in the front room.

By now the front room was packed. The vibe was crazy, and people very friendly. Nick Jones and Lucca Tan were dropping deep techno bombs, and the crowd was reacting in earnest. Damon Walsh and Silversix came on after and kept the crowd going with their own brand of tech-house funk. I really think that Mi Casa’s more upfront tech-house/techno vibe provides a great balance to the Wax crew’s more laid lack old-school house. I hope to see this party going for while to come.
